LaVar Ball Says the Lakers "Don't want to play" for Luke Walton

"Nobody wants to play for him", Ball added. I mean, he's our head coach.

Ball, who was up at 5 a.m. local time Saturday to watch his son Lonzo Ball in his first game back with the Lakers since suffering a sprained shoulder on December 23, expressed his frustration with Walton in an exclusive interview with ESPN.

Walton said Sunday that he was "fine" with LaVar's comments, on one condition. "We talk all the time". He has coached me his whole life.

"My only concern with any of it is for Zo", he said. "As long as Zo's fine with it and Zo can come out and play ... then it doesn't bother me at all".

Lonzo Ball also downplayed his father's comments, saying he disagreed with them.

The Lakers now have lost nine games in a row and 12 of their last 13 overall.

Lonzo Ball has insisted that his father will continue to speak his mind, but the latest chapter raised questions of whether the elder Ball was simply broadcasting sentiments that originated with his son.

"I don't see that our players aren't playing hard", Walton responded to Ball's father's comments.

"I don't think so", Ball responded following Sunday morning shootaround when asked point blank if he thought Walton had lost the locker room. So, he is definitely going to have a strong opinion about it.

"I just think it's in my head right now. They're 100 percent behind and supporting what we're doing".

Walton was asked whether LaVar Ball's comments could possibly influence what management is thinking about its coach and the team's rebuild.

Walton said that he pulled Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (zero points in 20 minutes) early on because of an uncharacteristically poor attention to defense. "I've said all along, 'there're always parents and parents are going to get mad at things. You can look at every player, he's not connecting with not one player".

"I know they have my back", Walton said of Lakers management. "Gr8 teacher & role model / if u don't like a situation just QUIT take ball & blame everyone / @ LukeWalton has more CLASS & HOOPS knowledge on his pinkie than LaVar!"
