MLK holiday celebration includes parade and call to service

"This bedroom, this is where Dr. Martin Luther King came, spent the night here in this room". "I encourage Minnesotans to join on January 15, as we honor past civil rights leaders and renew our state's commitment to building a better future for all Minnesotans".

The principal chief noted in Monday's statement that King wrote about colonization and the injustices committed against indigenous peoples and asked Cherokee Nation citizens to dedicate a day of service to their communities. T-shirts and food will be provided.

On Tuesday, Jan. 16, the community is invited to hear from Ed Jackson, executive architect of the Martin Luther King Jr.

The event, which is free to the public, is an opportunity to honor the accomplishments of King and his work with the civil rights movement. The service event benefits Charlotte-Mecklenburg nonprofits. The 11 a.m. program is the culminating event for Charlotte-Mecklenburg holiday festivities. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.at Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, 345 Washington St., Saint Paul, Minnesota.
