"In the latter case, progressed learners wrote part of the 2017 NSC examinations in November 2017, and the rest could be written in June 2018", said the Minister, during the release of the 2017 matric results on Thursday.

Although MEC Tate Makgoe and the Free State Department of Education will boast about achieving the best matric pass rate in the country, achieving 86%, but down by 2.2% from 2016, we remain concerned that the real matric pass rate is technically nearly half of that. "To the class of 2017, we have every confidence in our 2017 NSC candidates who have worked hard throughout the school year".

Schäfer said learners in the province receive their results a day later due to a number of reasons.
