After 16 days in theaters, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" has crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is expected to take in an estimated $65.6 million for the four-day holiday weekend in North America, for a total $530.3 million total since it opened there three weeks ago, said industry watcher Exhibitor Relations. It's the fourth film of 2017 to surpass the billion-dollar mark following Beauty and the Beast, The Fate of the Furious and Despicable Me 3.

The sequel, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, was close behind, repeating as the runner-up by taking in $51-million. The comedy sequel has earned $64.2 million so far.

In its first weekend in theaters after debuting on Christmas Day, Ridley Scott's "All the Money in the World" took in $5.5 million, bringing its total to $12.6 million.

Rounding out the top five were Pitch Perfect 3, The Greatest Showman, and Ferdinand, which earned $17.7, $15.2, and $11.6 million, respectively.

In limited release, Aaron Sorkin's "Molly's Game", starring Jessica Chastain, earned $2.33 million.

"Going to the movies is truly a worldwide phenomenon", said comScore's Senior Media Analyst, Paul Dergarabedian.

The year as a whole will surpass $11 billion again, with comScore projecting $11.12 billion, which is down 2.3 percent from last year's record-breaking grosses ($11.4 billion), and nearly on par with 2015's $11.14 billion. However, that could change once the actual numbers are released on New Year's Day.
