A chaotic scene broke out at a Louisiana school board meeting after a teacher was arrested, apparently for questioning why the board's superintendent was being given a $38,000 pay raise.

Hargrave, an English language arts teacher at Rene Rost Middle Schools, addressed the board during the public comments portion of the meeting to discuss teacher salaries and pay raises.

"A superintendent or any person in a position of leadership getting any type of raise, I feel like it's a slap in the face to all the teachers, cafeteria workers, and any other support staff we have", Ms Hargrave noted.

Her comments prompted board president Anthony Fontana to rule Hargrave out of order during the meeting, KATC reported.

Ms Hargrave appeared to leave the meeting willingly after the officer approached her and asked her to do so, but in the hallway video showed that she was on the ground being handcuffed and asking "what are you doing?" repeatedly. Hargrave yelled as the officer picked her up from the floor and pushed her towards an exit, commanding her to "stop resisting".

Hargrave grabs her purse and leaves as some protest that Superintendent Jerome Puyau had been addressing the teacher even as she she was being forced to leave. She has since bonded out.

"If [Moreno] wants to run and people put him in, then you do your contract and raises, or whatever you deem necessary", she said. Handcuffs were later placed on Hargrave in the hallway, as she was removed from the building.

It remains unclear whether the marshal was acting on his own accord or on orders of the board members, according to KATC. After being called on a second time, a city marshal stepped in.

On Tuesday morning, Hargrave's Facebook page was filled with supportive comments, some thanking her for taking a stand. The way that females are treated in Vermilion Parish, I have never seen a man removed from this room.

Hargrave was booked into the Abbeville City Jail on Monday evening for the charges of resisting an officer and remaining on premises after being forbidden there, arrest records show.
