TMZ: 'Coach' Star Jerry Van Dyke Dead at 86

Jerry Van Dyke, the younger broader of comedian Dick Van Dyke, died Friday, according to multiple reports.

His wife Shirley, who was with him when he passed away, said his health had been deteriorating ever since they were involved in a auto accident a couple of years ago, TMZ reports.

Van Dyke was born in Danville, Illinois and carried a decades-long career in television that started with a debut on the iconic Dick Van Dyke Show.

Van Dyke was best known for his role as Assistant Coach Luther Van Dam on ABC's "Coach", which earned him four Emmy nominations.

He had turned down the lead role in "Gilligan's Island" in favor of the highly ridiculed "My Mother the vehicle", which lasted a single season. It ran for only one season on NBC in September 1965.
