Vivo to soon launch a phone with under-display fingerprint sensor

Synaptics unveiled the first in-display fingerprint scanner late past year and the company also revealed that the first phone to sport the new technology would would be launched at CES 2018, in Las Vegas. It is notable that in-display fingerprint sensor will surely affect the thickness phone. By launching the next smartphone in CES, Vivo becomes the first brand ever to launch a consumer smartphone with fingerprint scanner beneath the display panel.

However, Vivo's new revolutionary technology will allow company to develop slimmer handsets as they will no more need additional space to incorporate separate module like for the metal-based finger-print sensor.

Synaptics has first revealed this technology in December 2017 and the news had sparked speculation as to which smartphones would sport this particular technology. The phone is ready for mass production and should be announced in “early 2018”. It is also said to be scratch proof and waterproof since it is covered with a glass.

We've been hearing about in-display fingerprint sensors for quite a while. Apple's iPhone X also has no side bezels. While rear-mounted fingerprint scanners are all well and good, there are people who just like it on the front of the smartphone.

At the time when Face recognition technology is replacing the fingerprint sensor, Vivo wants to revolutionize the fingerprint sensor again.
