Amazon launches free Whole Foods delivery service for Prime members

The offer allows Amazon Prime members to order goods from Whole Foods and have them show up at their homes within two hours. So delivering Whole Foods makes sense since the majority of the infrastructure is already in place.

Since the acquisition, Amazon has dropped prices of certain items at Whole Foods, while adding some Whole Foods products online. The No. 1 grocery retailer is Walmart with Kroger, Costco, Albertsons and now Amazon rounding out the top five.

If you want to take advantage of the delivery service, all you have to do is head on over to Prime Now's website or download the app.

The announcement is just the latest in the integration by Amazon of the grocery store chain that is known for its high end organic products that Amazon purchases for $13.7 billion in June of past year.

It's also precisely the action rivals have been preparing for since the day Amazon - with the Prime program that's been so successful in cementing customer loyalty - announced plans to buy Whole Foods.

Prime members will receive two-hour delivery on the Amazon owned Whole Foods' groceries for free, or can pay $7.99 (£5.76) for one-hour deliveries.

Being able to order groceries and have them delivered within two hours would go a long way toward dealing with the convenience factor. Food Dive has reached out to Amazon for clarification. Both of those companies, which have partnered with most of the country's major grocery chains, offer memberships that provide discounted delivery. Naturally this is also an option available to Prime subscribers, which for $99 a year doesn't seem like a bad deal considering all the perks that you get.

The move is the latest by Amazon to put its stamp on its recent purchase of Whole Foods.
