In a news release, Take-Two said "Red Dead Redemption 2" will be launched on October 26, instead of this spring, "to allow additional time to further polish the final product".

After months of rumors, product listings, and teases by Rockstar Games, we've finally got a concrete release date for the upcoming Red Dead Redemption sequel.

"We attribute this slip to Rockstar's infamous perfectionism and don't think it changes the overall unit sales potential for the game", O'Shea said.

"While we had hoped to have the game out sooner, we require a little extra time for polish", the post reads.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will actually be a prequel, with you playing a new character that will also cross paths with Van der Linde gang, who you'll remember from the first game. Midway through 2017, another announcement came, stating the delay of its release to spring 2018. Red Dead Redemption 2 will now be coming out on the 26th of October this year. Instead, the game will not be dropping on its target release window.

It's though the title will share similarities with GTA Online, which has been hugely successful for Rockstar Games. The first Red Dead Redemption proved to be something of a masterclass in open world gameplay, with an interesting and impactful story tied to a world that at times truly felt alive. This is not what fans of the franchise wanted to hear, but as a consolation prize, Rockstar, has released a new batch of handsome screenshots for them to peruse.

Red Dead Redemption II is technically a prequel to 2010's Red Dead Redemption.
