Toys R Us Liquidation Sales Start at 170 Stores

Sales with some significant discounts start Wednesday at the dozens of Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores that are closing, including one on the Katy Freeway.

Toys "R" Us began liquidation sales Wednesday at 144 stores across the United States, listing fewer stores than the chain initially sought to shut down. Toys R Us has lost market share from competitors including Amazon, Target and Walmart, and more toy brands are selling directly to consumers. It is among roughly 180 other Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us stores set to close.

Toys R Us filed to reorganize under bankruptcy protection in September as sales slowed and debt increased prior to the Christmas shopping season. Stores in Alpharetta, Dunwoody, Lithonia and Douglasville are Babies R Us. The 150 stores, representing about one-fifth of the company's USA locations, are expected to close by April. The company has suffered since reports of decreasing sales during the 2017 holiday season.

A release from the company says that opening discounts will begin at 30 percent off, adding that "deep discounts" will come later. If you have a gift card, you can still use it at stores that are expected to close.
