US Condemns Odinga's Inauguration As Kenya's President

The political battle highlights how the fraught election in east Africa's economic powerhouse and freest country is reverberating months later.

The government on Tuesday cut the transmission of Citizen TV, NTV and KTN News broadcasts, after they defied orders from the government to refrain from airing Odinga's oath-taking.

Owino further indicated that Aladwa was also been apprehended for planning violence witnessed in Kibra area in Nairobi following the arrest of NRM self-proclaimed general Miguna Miguna.

President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration has termed Mr Odinga's action as treason.

"While we were hoping that the country, after a bruising election season, could pull together, that seems a lost hope", Murithi Mutiga, a senior analyst with the International Crisis Group, said.

"This is by reportedly warning that participation in the "inauguration ceremony" would lead to revocation of licences".

After last August's presidential election was annulled, Odinga boycotted the re-run, saying the process was still rigged. A repeat election was held on October 26, but Odinga boycotted it because he said the electoral commission had made insufficient reforms.
