A prisoner set to be deported escaped from Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents at JFK Airport in Queens, and fled by hailing a cab, security footage shows.

Mohamadou Lamine Mbacke, 31, escaped ICE custody at JFK Airport on March 27, 2018.

ICE agents removed the handcuffs for the security screening process, removing an obstacle for his escape.

The Port Authority Police say that it happened Tuesday night at Terminal 4 while the detainee was supposed to be making a connecting flight. He was ordered to be deported in September 2015. A check of video cameras by authorities showed the individual left the airport in a cab. He originally came into the United States lawfully in 2005, but was later convicted for "multiple weapons and firearms offences". He was wearing a purple or black shirt, jeans and sneakers. A spokesman from the Port Authority confirmed news of the escape to Fox News early Wednesday.

"Mbacke is described as being 6'3" tall and weighs approximately 190 pounds. ICE along with state, federal and local authorities are now actively seeking his whereabouts.

Federal and local agents are searching for him, and members of the public should not try to apprehend him.
