Kyle Fuller likely to remain with Chicago Bears after all

The deadline to use the franchise and transition tags is 3 p.m. Tuesday and while general manager Ryan Pace said last week at the National Football League combine in Indianapolis that all options remained on the table, sources indicate the Bears are unlikely to tag Fuller. Meaning the Raiders will have to look elsewhere to upgrade their beleaguered secondary this offseason.

By using the transition tag, the Bears secure the right to match any contract offer Fuller might receive from another team.

The Bears used the transition tag on Fuller, allowing the team to continue to negotiate a long-term deal without the risk of losing him entirely to free agency.

The 26-year-old cornerback is essentially like a restricted free agent now. He played all 16 games this season, recording two interceptions, 22 passes defended and 89 total tackles.

He has eight career picks and was set to be an unrestricted free agent after the Bears previously declined to pick up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.

Last week at the scouting combine in Indianapolis, Bears general manager Ryan Pace characterized the team's talks with Fuller as, "pretty aggressive", and added, "Obviously we like Kyle, and he had a good season, and we're happy with the way he's progressed". He had four interceptions, 10 pass deflections, three forced fumbles, and 64 tackles.
