The Friday morning shooting of a 17-year-old Forest High School student by a 19-year-old non-student was "intentional", authorities said.

A Florida high school student was shot by another student Friday morning.

On Friday, students from across the U.S. participated in the second National Walkout Day, a protest organised in the wake of the Stoneman Douglas School shooting in Florida back in February.

The wounded student's injuries are not life-threatening, according to a spokesperson for the school system.

Forest High School is the second-largest school in the district, with more than 2,000 students, the sheriff said.

Woods said the school resource officer heard "a large, loud bang sound" and immediately responded, finding the injured student and taking the suspect into custody.
