KCNA: Kim Jong-un discusses future U.S. talks at party meeting

The North's state-run media has so far remained silent on the upcoming Kim-Trump summit, first announced by South Korean officials in Washington DC last month.

Talks have been taking place between the United States and North Korean officials in anticipation of a summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un.

CNN reported on Saturday that the US and North Korea have been holding secret, direct talks to prepare for the summit.

Trump has also agreed to meet Kim to discuss denuclearization as soon as next month.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Monday provided a "profound analysis" on the prospect of dialogue between the DPRK and the US, the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Tuesday.

According to a diplomatic source cited by Yomiuri, if the United States "faithfully takes part in the summit", the North Korean leader is ready to be more active and open to receiving worldwide scrutiny and inspection on dismantling his nuclear programs, compared to past agreements such as the Geneva Agreement in 1994 and the Six-Party Agreement in 2005.

Mr Kim's remarks on Monday did not specifically refer to a summit with Mr Trump.

"Hopefully it will be a relationship that will be much different than it has been for many, many years", added Trump.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting on Monday, the U.S. President said that White House officials had been "in touch with North Korea", and that he planned to meet the DPRK leader in May or early June.

The Rodong Sinmun, the official organ of the ruling Workers' Party, filled its front page with KCNA's report, along with pictures of Kim chairing the Politburo meeting.

It was the first tangible sign that Kim was still willing to meet with Trump since the North first proposed the summit last month.

Instead, he might ask for other concessions, perhaps a reduction in the American military presence on the peninsula, said Koh Yu-hwan, professor of North Korean studies at Dongkuk University and one of Moon's advisers.

It has not been revealed what North Korea is hoping to achieve at the end of the bilateral talks.

The North's foreign minister Ri Yong Ho arrived in Moscow on Monday after stopping in Beijing.

Trump, also, criticized his predecessors for not addressing Washington's contentions with Pyongyang. However, he was eager to engage with the authoritarian Kim Jong-un once the possibility of a meeting between the two was raised.

The two countries have been holding secret meetings to prepare for the summit, trying to work out the logistics of time and meeting place.
