Kessler made a short film based on The Montauk Project, a series of top-secret government experiments in Long Island that conspiracy theorists believe involved things like telekinesis and time travel.

Kessler alleges that in 2014, he sat down with the Duffer brothers and his agents to pitch the idea of turning the short into a full-blown TV series. He pitched the idea to the Duffer brothers and they didn't go with it but was pretty pissed off when he saw the series premiere in 2016.
