Noor Salman was acquitted of all charges, including aiding and abetting a foreign terrorist organization and obstruction of justice Friday in an Orlando, Fla., courtroom.

Salman also advised Mateen to lie to his mother when she inquired about his whereabouts on the night of the shooting, prosecutors said.

Jurors at the court in Orlando on Friday found Noor Salman not guilty of obstruction of justice, and for providing material support to Mateen before the mass shooting, one of the deadliest in modern USA history.

During the trial, Linda Moreno, one of Salman's lawyers, told reporters that her client "had no foreknowledge, nor could she predict what Omar Mateen meant to do that tragic night". "She may not have known what day, or what location, but she knew".

"We're very sorry for the family members and friends of the 49 victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting, and also the survivors of that frightful attack", said Susan Clary, Noor's family spokeswoman.

Jurors began deliberating Wednesday afternoon before returning with a verdict Friday morning.

"She doesn't go to the mosque, she searches for Hello Kitty on her website", defense attorney Charles Swift said in his closing argument. "I want to thank the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, who have worked tirelessly on this case in the quest for justice".

But the defence portrayed her as an easily manipulated woman with a low IQ and argued that she signed a false confession because she was exhausted after a long interrogation and feared losing her young son.

Salman is the widow of Pulse Nightclub shooter Omar Mateen.

Salman did not testify during the trial.

"We just relived the whole thing all over again", said India Godman, who was in the nightclub when shots rang out, killing 14 of her friends. She told investigators that Mateen had deactivated his Facebook account in 2013, but they found that he had an account up until the month of the shooting - and was friends with his wife.

"I respect the criminal justice process, and we all to trust that the jury made their decision free of bias and emotion", said Pulse owner Barbara Poma in a statement posted on Twitter.

Ms Salman was married to Mateen when he attacked gay nightspot Pulse in June 2016 as he claimed allegiance to Islamic State.

Noor Salman began sobbing with joy when the decision was read out at the United States district court in the Florida city. Her statement detailed how Mateen was obsessed with watching beheading videos and would do so in front of their children.

"This was really her opportunity to clear her name and move on with her life", her spokeswoman Susan Clary told reporters, adding that Salman will now move to California, where she has relatives.

Salman's attorneys denied her involvement in the mass shooting.

Salman's attorneys argued that their client was not an accomplice but a simple-minded victim of her husband's infidelity and lies.

Sweeney said Mateen's initial plan was to attack Disney Springs, a commercial district adjacent to Disney World.
