Rangers finished the season third for the second season in a row while Burnley finished seventh in the Premier League this season.

With the Premier League season now over, Burnley have given the green light for Arfield to be announced as the first signing of the Steven Gerrard era.

Arfield, who is Gerrard's first signing at Rangers, says he is excited by the prospect of working with the former Liverpool and England captain, but admits he is yet to speak with his new boss.

Scott Arfield feels he left Scotland a "wee boy" and returns a "natural leader" who is ready to meet the expectations of playing for Rangers.

"When a club of this magnitude comes in for you it's a no-brainer". It's been a long time coming and hopefully the next four years are going to be fantastic.

If Nicholl was to remain, it would be interesting to see what position he would be given by Gerrard, with Gary McAllister brought in as the Liverpool legend's assistant.
