Ford has announced that production is set to restart at its MI plant on Friday, with the Kentucky facility to follow suit on Monday.

Ford (F) is resuming production of its F-Series pickup trucks, ending assembly line shut downs at two of its most important plants that have lasted more than a week.

Fiat Chrysler (FCAU) said that production of its Chrysler Pacifica SUV at its Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada, was still impacted as of Wednesday. "The ramp-up time to full production is improving every day".

Ford said last week that it had an 84-day supply of the F-150, which has been the top-selling vehicle in Americafor four decades, putting the auto in danger of selling out if the production standstill dragged on.

The pain has been felt most acutely at Ford, since F-Series generates most of the company's profit.

Investors have already been anxious that Ford is behind the curve in cost management and new age technologies which include autonomously controlled vehicles.

To get production up as quickly as possible, Ford airlifted an 87,000-pound die to a Meridian plant in the United Kingdom on a Russian-built Antonov An-124 Ruslan, one of the world's largest cargo planes.

Under normal circumstances, moving tooling the size of a bolster die would take approximately 10 days just to get the proper import and export approvals.

When the team removed the die from the Eaton Rapids factory, it was shipped to Rickenbacker International Airport in Columbus, Ohio.

"Faced with unexpected adversity, the Ford team, including our global supply partners, showed unbelievable resiliency, turning a devastating event into a shining example of teamwork", said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford's head of product development and purchasing.

A team in Nottingham was waiting to receive the die and take it to Meridian's nearby factory. In between, the Ford team received a United Kingdom import license for the die - two hours before the plane touched down.

Ford executives declined to say how many vehicles were not produced as a result of the idling, though they said customers should have no problems finding trucks in dealership lots.

The Meridian Magnesium Products of America plant where the fire broke out also produces parts for other automakers. Meanwhile, the automaker has reaffirmed its guidance for full-year earnings.

The production hiccup will cost Ford 12 cents to 14 cents per share in the second quarter.
