Giuliani: Trump repaid Cohen $130K for payment to Stormy Daniels

President Donald Trump repaid his attorney Michael Cohen the $130,000 Cohen has acknowledged paying porn star Stormy Daniels shortly before the 2016 election for her silence about their alleged affair in 2006, the president's new lawyer, Rudolph Giuliani, said Wednesday night.

In response to questions from reporters aboard Air Force One in April, President Trump said he was not aware of any payments made to Daniels and referred questions about the matter directly to Cohen: "You'll have to ask Michael Cohen".

Trump only finally admitted that Cohen had represented him in the Daniels negotiations last week.

But tonight, Giuliani contradicted that story.

"That money was not campaign money", Giuliani said.

"It obviously increases the president's exposure to potential campaign finance violations, but it also makes him look awful", said Sol Wisenberg, a defence attorney who was a deputy independent counsel during the Starr special counsel investigation into President Bill Clinton. "Funneled it through a law firm, and then the president repaid it".

'But he did know about the general arrangement that Michael would take care of things like this'. "Michael would take care of things like this, like I take care of things like this for my clients". He said Americans should be outraged by Giuliani's admission. She has also sued Trump for defamation.

Daniels" attorney, Michael Avenatti, said Giuliani's comments were a "stunning revelation" and that Trump "participated in a felony'.

Later, Giuliani said in an interview that when Cohen paid the settlement to Daniels, he knew he would eventually get paid back by Trump, as he was for other expenses. "These are busy people".

Daniels' lawyer Michael Avenatti said he was "stunned" by Giuliani's claim that Trump knew about the payment.

"I love Rudy, but they better have an explanation for that", Ingraham said. Giuliani said that Trump told Cohen, "We'll cover your expenses", and agreed to pay him $35,000 a month "out of his personal funds" over the course of a year-long period that began in the first few months of 2017 and has since ended.

Giuliani recently joined Trump's legal team in an effort to bring special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russia's 2016 election meddling and any possible coordination with the Trump campaign to an end.
