He stresses "After all, it was Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who, resisting all pressures, took the most important and most hard decision on national security in Pakistan's history by making the country a nuclear power in May 1998".

Sharif had admitted publicly on Friday that Pakistani terrorists were involved in the 26/11 attacks and questioned why Ajmal Kasab and nine others were allowed to cross the border to carry out the carnage in Mumbai in 2008.

Following the NSC statement, Abbasi had clarified at a press conference that Nawaz's remarks were misquoted in the media.

While talking to the media outside a court in Islamabad, Mr Sharif said, "What did I say that was wrong in the (Dawn) interview?"

One official said: They (India) have indicated they might do that (move the ICJ on Sharifs statement).

Following the statement, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, led by Nawaz's brother Shehbaz Sharif, had stated that the Indian media had misreported the statement.

The statement said that it was recalled during the meeting that the delay in conclusion of the Mumbai attack case was caused by India, not Pakistan. "Who introduced terrorism to this lovely country?"

After the NSC meeting, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi met Sharif and conveyed to him the concerns of the military leadership over his remarks regarding the Mumbai attacks, the DawnNewsTV reported citing its sources.

He added that local media had picked up India's narrative by widely reporting the remarks made by the ousted premier which had stirred a controversy.

"For the past two days, Nawaz's controversial statement is the topic of debate", the PTI leader further said.

He added that Nawaz had not said anything that had not been said before. "It is unacceptable that Nawaz is being termed a traitor", Geo TV quoted Prime Minister Abbasi, as saying. He said that the PML-N "rejects all assertions, direct or implied, made in the news report of Dawn".

Separately PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said the former premier does not respect the state or institutions.
