Lomachenko battered Linares enough that he was already bleeding from his nose just four rounds into the title bout.

It was a left hook to the ribs that crumpled Linares at 2:08 of the 10th round. With the victory, the Ukranian boxer won a world title in three weight divisions in the fewest fights ever in the history of the sport - 12 fights overall.

An even fourth round saw both have telling successes with both exchanging shots to the body early in the round courtesy of left hands.

"Linares is a great champion", he said, "and the fight was good for the fans and everybody". An amateur record of 396 wins and one defeat is testament to that, plus two amateur champion titles and two Olympic gold medals!

The main event of the night was between Jorge Linares (44-3) and Vasyl Lomachenko (10-1) for the WBA Lightweight Title.

Linares has notoriously been cut many times throughout his career, but his cutman this evening was none other than Rudy Hernandez, whose fighters have not lost a bout due to a cut for the last five years. But by the end of the third round, Lomachenko's fast hands and feet began to turn the fight in his favor.

A straight right in the sixth from the Venezuelan floored Lomachenko, who seemed shake and stayed away until the round was over.

This might be Lomachenko's most impressive victory. It is not promotional hyperbole, as Bob Arum can often be accused of, when the Top Rank head honcho ponders Lomachenko's place among the all-time greats. Luckily the knockdown came in the last 30 seconds of the round and saw out the round, avoiding the laying in wait set up of Linares. There was a major mistake - I tried to move left and from there I got a punch.

"All this talk that I want to fight him but my promoter doesn't want to allow me, that's a fighter hiding", Golden Boy's Robert Diaz said. The round was coming to a close so Linares could not take advantage and jump on Loma.

"The fight was getting interesting", Linares told US newspaper USA Today. Although there's not much in it, just a bit more snap behind the shots from Linares.

But the smiling stopped in the sixth, when Linares knocked Lomachenko down with a straight right hand in the final minute of the round.

For everything Linares brought to the table in terms of speed, craft and fluid combinations, Lomachenko was somehow always one step ahead of him in a dazzling display of boxing artistry that can best be described as high-speed chess. The vulnerability exposed by Linares, who make no mistake is a beast, should encourage the likes of WBC champ Mikey Garcia in particular who at 135lbs is a huge puncher with a very sharp grasp of the fundamentals. "[Lomachenko] told me August 25 is good".
