The father of the Olympic boxing champion Katie Taylor has been seriously injured after a shooting at his gym in which another man was killed.

Gardaí can confirm that a 30-year-old man has died following a shooting incident.

"We know one person entered the gym and came out and made their getaway in a silver VW Caddy with a Northern Ireland registered number".

According to thejournal.ie, Taylor sustained injuries to his arm and chest and remains in a serious condition in St. Vincent's hospital.

50-year-old, father of three, Bobby Messett was killed in the shooting while boxing coach Pete Taylor and another man were injured.

They are appealing to anyone who witnessed the movements of the van along the route travelled between 7-8am yesterday morning to contact them.
