Fallout 76 set to debut at E3

Tens of thousands watched this bobblehead stand around until the next day when a teaser trailer was unveiled for Fallout Vault 76.

A lot can be inferred from the trailer, the handful of screenshots we've got so far, and previous mentions of Vault 76 in the "Fallout" series. There are also references to the Halloween season, including a carved pumpkin and a prominent trophy citing an "Annual Vault Halloween Costume Contest" which suggest a release around the most haunted time of the year. The buzz I'm hearing (both first- and second-hand) is that it's really cool, interesting, and just as story-focused as any other Bethesda Game Studios game. The latest installment in the Fallout franchise's teaser trailer is just that, a tease, with many more details to come on the stage in Los Angeles.

Fallout 76 is in development for unspecified platforms. If he were secretly working on the game, it would make more sense for him to ignore fan questions and avoid addressing it publicly until given the go-ahead by Bethesda. But what does that mean for ongoing projects like Fallout: New California and the long-time coming Fallout 4: New Vegas? .

If this is the direction that Bethesda is taking Fallout 4, it will be intriguing to see if they add PvP to the game. We expect the release date to be revealed during the Bethesda press conference at E3.

Gaming site Kotaku claims to have heard on good authority that the upcoming entry will be an "online survival RPG", built from a prototype multiplayer mode originally envisioned for Fallout 4 and utilizing the base-building mechanics that were introduced in the 2015 game - and which propelled the huge success of its tie-in mobile game, Fallout Shelter.

One big hint that Vault 76 will be dropping this year comes in the form of a documentary set to release on June 12.
