House Republican disputes Trump’s ‘spy’ claim, says Federal Bureau of Investigation acted properly

President Donald Trump's efforts to convince Attorney General Jeff Sessions to withdraw his recusal from the Russian Federation investigation and other campaign-related investigations were much deeper and extensive than has previously been revealed, according to a new report from Axios. "There are lots of really good lawyers in the country, he could have picked somebody else!' And I wish I did!"

At least 18 lawmakers support a resolution calling on U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions to appoint a special counsel to investigate what they describe as "misconduct" by the department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Sessions first recused himself in March 2017, saying he "should not be involved in investigating a campaign I had a role in". If I were the President and I picked someone to be the country's....

Gowdy argued Sessions should have offered these reasons before accepting Trump's offer.

Norah O'Donnell asked Gowdy if Trump asking Sessions to reverse his recusal, a request recently reported by the New York Times, would constitute obstruction of justice.

"According to Gowdy, the FBI ran it by the book, how the Americans would have wanted them run the investigation".

Trump then added, "And I wish I did!"

But key Republican lawmakers have warned Trump not to dismiss Sessions, fearing it could lead to Trump's impeachment, and that the USA leader could not be assured that a new appointment as attorney general could win confirmation in the politically fractious Senate, where Republicans hold only a 51-49 majority.

The Times' report Tuesday also described Sessions as a "key witness" in the probe into whether Trump had attempted to obstruct justice. "But this is what I said, Lawrence, a couple of weeks ago when I talked about grumble bragging from members of this administration ..."

President Trump says Deep State officials within the intelligence community were out to sabotage his presidential prospects, spying on him during the campaign.
