Jared Leto to star in Spider-Man spin-off Morbius: The Living Vampire

According to Deadline, Jared Leto is set to the character Morbius in a Sony spinoff of the Spider-Man Universe. Eventually, he was raised - like Venom - to a sort of antihero status, getting his own comic book titles to headline once readers saw that he wasn't all that bad of a guy. Leto, who already plays one of the most popular comic book characters of all time in DC's Joker, will now join the newest and smallest shared universe in Sony's, which includes Venom starring Tom Hardy to be released later this year, as well as another spinoff, Silver and Black.

Plus, Leto is now on tour with Thirty Seconds To Mars in North America in support of the band's latest album, America. The character suffered from a rare blood disease and, in his attempts to cure himself, inadvertently turned himself in a bloodthirsty ghoul who regularly squared off with Peter Parker. The script is written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, the duo who created Netflix's Lost In Space remake. After meeting with Espinosa in Germany, he apparently felt it was.

Morbius was introduced in 1971 by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane in "The Amazing Spider-Man #101".

There's no set date for this, Silk, or the proposed Nightwatch film, but Variety reports that production for this Morbius project will likely begin this year. While Sony still holds the rights to Spider-Man and his stable of villains, Homecoming and Far From Home were co-produced with Marvel Studios, with Marvel handling the majority of the creative work involved with bringing those movies to life.
