University of Kentucky Student TeNiya Elnora Jones Disappears After Israel Swim

Jones was one of seven United Kingdom students, and two students from West Virginia University, who were participating in a summer Arabic language program based in Amman, Jordan.

TeNiya Jones, 19, a sophomore at the University of Kentucky, was studying in Amman, Jordan, family members told the Fort Myers News-Press. "She was supposed to start on August 23", Thomas-Mora said before she broke down in tears.

Jones was part of a group of seven students, including five from the University of Kentucky, studying Arabic in Amman, Jordan, since June.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with TeNiya, her family and the students and others impacted", University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto said in a statement.

"There were other students present in Tel Aviv", with Jones, he said, and they are "naturally concerned for the well-being of their friend". Jones had disappeared off a beach in the Tel Aviv suburb of Bat Yam after entering the water for a late-night swim with two friends and getting caught in a rip current in the Mediterranean.

'We are in continual contact with Teniya's family, officials in Israel, officials from the State Department and our Congressional delegation, to provide all the support we can for the family, students and others involved. Less than eight hours later she received a call from CIEE: Council On International Educational Exchange, which offered the study overseas program through the University of Kentucky. "We will do everything possible to provide whatever support is needed", Capilouto said. "She is loved. You were easily attracted to her personality", Thomas-Mora, who has another daughter, 3-year-old Naomi Ruth Mora, told The News-Press.

Her friends have taken to Facebook to leave messages and sentiments of prayer for her safe return.

He insisted she wouldn't go swimming as the other two students are saying she did. They found a body Monday morning.

Jones, her mother said, is an excellent student whose high G.P.A. had helped her earn a spot in the University of Kentucky's premedical program. A cousin tweeted recent photos of her on Sunday, urging anybody with information on her to get in touch. This is a developing story and will be updated.
