Woman, 92, Accused Of Shooting Her 72-Year-Old Son

A 92-year-old woman shot her son to death after she took exception to his plan to move her into an Arizona retirement home, authorities said Tuesday.

Blessing told detectives her son had told her she was becoming "difficult to live with", and that he was going to take her to an assisted living facility, KNXV-TV reports.

According to a press release from the sheriffs office, Blessing contemplated for several days before taking action.

A 92-year-old woman allegedly killed her son in Arizona because she did not want to be sent to an assisted living facility, authorities said.

Once she was disarmed, Blessing sat on a reclining chair until deputies arrived and arrested her, officials said.

She explained that both the guns she used, a revolver and a.25 caliber pistol, were hers but that she hadn't fired either since the 1970s, before Monday. "You know, there's a lot of circumstances surrounding it of course, but it's definitely something you don't see every day, and it's very unfortunate that this took place", Vanegas said.

Blessing is then said to have pointed the weapon at her son's girlfriend, 57. Blessing lived with her son and his girlfriend for about six months before the freaky incident took place at their resident. Blessing told deputies her son wanted her to leave because she "had become hard to live with".

According to the police account of the shooting published by Newsweek, Blessing armed herself with two pistols and hide them in her robe before she confronted her son.

The girlfriend managed to knock this one out of Mrs Blessing's hands, too, before escaping and calling the sheriff's office.

Blessing has been charged with a count of murder in the first degree, a count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a count of kidnapping.

"It is always concerning when domestic issues escalate to violence or tragic outcomes", Sheriff Paul Penzone said. 'They are often isolated and neither predictable nor preventable'.

Blessing remains in jail, held on a $500,000 cash bond. She will appear in court for a preliminary hearing on 13 July.
