Reports say Wake Forest assistant basketball coach arrested following fatal altercation

Wake Forest assistant basketball coach Jamill Jones has reportedly pleaded not guilty to assault charges, according to The Denver Post.

Police said 35-year-old Sandor Szabo was punched in the face Sunday on 29th Street near 41st Avenue in Long Island City, Queens.

Jamill Jones, 35, of Kernerville, North Carolina, was arrested Thursday and charged with third-degree assault.

Jones emerged from his SUV and punched Szabo, who fell to the ground, hit his head and later died at a local hospital, according to police and court documents. Szabo apparently thought the SUV was his Uber back to his hotel.

Jones, an assistant basketball coach at Wake Forest University, punched Szabo in the face, police said.

Jones just completed his second season as an assistant at Wake Forest.

Per the New York Post, the medical examiner has yet to determine if the punch allegedly thrown by Jones led to Szabo's death, and the charges against him could change.
