Robben underlines Boateng's importance to Bayern

While the club's management favour selling the 29-year-old German worldwide this summer, coach Niko Kovac and several stars are demanding that Boateng stays.

Arjen Robben hopes defender Jerome Boateng remains with Bayern Munich despite the German World Cup victor from 2014 being linked with a transfer from the club.

Bayern Munich stars and coach Niko Kovac do not want to let go of central defender Jerome Boateng even as the club management is in favour of selling the 29-year-old German worldwide this summer. The German tabloid Bild reported that Boateng phoned Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho to tell him he won't be heading to Old Trafford.

The reigning French league champions Paris St Germain and their German coach Thomas Tuchel are said to be interested in signing Boateng.

Last month, Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said the 29-year-old's representatives had been in touch with the French outfit.

Boateng joined Bayern from Manchester City in 2011 and has won six Bundesliga titles and three DFB-Pokals, along with the World Cup for his country in 2014.

He endured a torrid campaign in Russian Federation earlier this year however, where he was sent off in Germany's only win of the tournament, 2-1 against Sweden, as the defending champions were knocked out in the group stages.

The report also claimed that Bayern will be happy to offload Boateng after growing exhausted of his ill-discipline in recent seasons. However, several star names of the Bayern team are demanding that Boateng stays.

However, Robben is hopeful the club will keep the German centre-back for the upcoming season.
