A tender for its surface repairing was floated in April this year by the Executive Engineer, Behala Sub Division of Public Works Department (PWD) but so far department has not gone public about it, saying that the five decade-old bridge was maintained by them. However, experts said the bridge was very old and any structural defect or use of inferior quality of material as the reason behind the collapse could not be attributed.

Refuting the opposition charges, state Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim said the state government has taken enough steps to fix old bridges which were in a dilapidated state during the Left Front rule.
