Kulsoom is survived by her husband and four children, Hassan, Hussain, Maryam and Asma.

Both sons Hassan and Hussain reside in the United Kingdom and cared for her while Nawaz and Maryam attended near daily hearings of their corruption trial.

Over the last 30 years, she had stood by her husband and advised him on various government affairs.

Since then, Nawaz and Maryam have been making regular making trips to the United Kingdom to visit Kulsoom. However, she was soon forced to move to London for treatment, and was unable to return and formally take oath for the seat. Party leaders have also said that she occasionally wrote many of Nawaz's speeches. Maryam had said in the past that her mother "dauntlessly challenged the usurper (Pervez Musharraf) when a lot of men backed out".

Sharif was ousted from the premiership a month before his wife's diagnosis.

The Prime Minister has directed Pakistani High Commission in London to assist in provision of all necessary facilities to the heirs of the deceased. "May God bless her soul".

Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa expressed "grief and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family", said the official military spokesman.
