Hurricane Florence is plowing toward the East Coast as a Category 4 storm with a 500-mile wing span, forcing dire warnings and mandatory evacuations - including the entire coastline of SC and parts of Virginia and North Carolina. The storm is centered about 765 miles southeast of Bermuda and moving west at 6 mph (9 kph).

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT)- The National Hurricane Center says the coastline of SC may be impacted by the chance of Tropical Storm Florence becoming Hurricane Florence.

Florence will cause life-threatening storm surge at the coast and flooding from rainfall inland, forecasters predict.

Swells generated by Florence could cause risky rip currents and coastal flooding Saturday in areas including coastal DE and New Jersey, the National Weather Service said. Florence is a 140-mph, major Category 4 storm, moving to the west-northwest at 13 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center's latest advisory.

Though weakened to a tropical storm, Florence was expected to regain hurricane strength as it neared Bermuda.
