Inbox by Gmail to Be Shut Down by March 2019: Google

As such, Google has decided that Inbox has served its goal and will be retiring the app.

But in an overhaul to Gmail this year, Google implemented numerous innovative features that were introduced in Inbox.

Unfortunately, Google looks to be shutting down the test lab as it mainlines more features to Gmail. Inbox won't be shuttered immediately, with a transitional period until March 2019. Gmail, by comparison, is very busy, even the new version. While the exact date was not mentioned by the company, Google did release a Support Guide so that users of Inbox can make the transition to Gmail. In March 2019, we'll have to say our goodbyes. But as a user experience, as then senior VP Sundar Pichai explained in a blog post, Inbox was "designed to focus on what really matters".

The Verge wrote that the Inbox did not see enough updates but fans went through this just so they can have a better or a different email experience. At that time, the company will discontinue the app.

Google said that it is making the change so it can focus exclusively on Gmail.

One Inbox by Gmail feature that still hasn't made its way over to the standard Gmail service is the email bundling.

When I reviewed Inbox back in 2014 I quickly realized that the service was not something that I wanted to use. What started out as an invite-only service, turned into a pretty popular email app. Head down to the comments section and let us know! Back in 2012, Google announced it was killing off Google Reader in early 2013 as part of its "Spring Cleaning" and there were all kinds of petitions being signed and so forth, but that didn't keep Google Reader from being killed off.
