Russia Launches Biggest-Ever War Games. China Participates Too

Russia's military chief of staff says that the military exercises expected to be the biggest in three decades, will involve almost 300,000 troops.

Russian defence ministry says 36,000 tanks will take part in Vostok 2018, from today until September 17 as well as more than 1,000 aircraft. Mongolia is also sending some units.

"The Vostok 2018 troop exercises have begun in Russia's Far East", the defence ministry said in a report by TASS.

The week-long manoeuvres come at a time of heightened Nato-Russia tensions.
