Michael Sorrentino pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion and admitted concealing his income in 2011 by making cash deposits in amounts that wouldn't trigger federal reporting requirements. Marc Sorrentino, 39, pleaded guilty to Count 5, which charged him with aiding in the preparation of a false and fraudulent tax return. They were charged in 2014 with tax offences related to almost US$9 million (NZ$14m) in income.

As part of his sentence, the reality TV star has to complete 500 hours of community service when he is released.

Sorrentino posted on his Instagram tonight. He also pleaded guilty in January.

Klingeman added that Sorrentino "righted his life", referring to the 36-year-old getting sober after battling with substance abuse. His attorneys hoped the judge would only receive probation, while prosecutors argued for a 14-month prison sentence. Sorrentino's attorney had pressed for no jail time, arguing that Sorrentino, 37, played a minor role in how his taxes were prepared and was suffering at the time from addiction to painkillers. The pair threw a wedding shower for friends and loved ones last weekend, where Sorrentino's "Jersey Shore" pals including Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Jenni "JWoww" Farley were on hand to celebrate.

Judge Susan D. Wigenton ordered Michael Sorrentino to pay US$123,913 in restitution and serve two years of supervised release after his prison term is over. Starring in the show from 2009-2012, "The Situation" would once again star in the reunion show "Jersey Shore Family Vacation". He was a cast member for all six seasons of Shore's original run, ending in 2012.
