Protesters urge Senators to vote 'no' on Kavanaugh as decision looms

Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court seat looks all but confirmed after he won the backing of key senators despite an FBI investigation into sexual assault allegations.

Kavanaugh's confirmation is not yet a done deal.

The Maine senator spoke with Republican Sen. Eleven Democrats voted for Thomas, while two Republicans opposed his confirmation. Joe Manchin of West Virginia. As of Friday night, she appears to be the only Republican who will vote against the judge. Steve Daines of Montana will not be in attendance if there is a Saturday vote because he will be walking his daughter down the aisle at her wedding.

Collins added she will announce her ultimate decision on Kavanaugh's confirmation at 3 p.m. ET Friday.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins of ME, who voted to advance Kavanaugh, said she will announce her decision on confirmation later Friday. They reach a gentleperson's agreement to "pair" their votes if one of the senators will be absent. "How dare you prioritize him over us". They raised concerns about his judicial philosophy and how he would rule on abortion and health care issues.

In the moment on Friday that made it clear Kavanaugh would prevail, Collins delivered a speech saying that Ford's Judiciary Committee telling of the alleged 1982 assault was "sincere, painful and compelling". He forcefully denied the allegations.

That is because U.S. Sen. He blamed his rocky confirmation process on politics. I'm glad that Judge Kavanaugh was heard, and that the FBI investigation was done. That support all but assures Republicans of the votes they need to push the nomination across the finish line.

Meanwhile, Republicans raged against the other women's accusations.

But they also continue blasting Feinstein and other Democrats for how they have handled the accusations - and treated the accuser. What she's said: "It is reassuring to the public", Collins told The New York Times over the weekend.

Unsurprisingly, people have dug up that old tweet and are now using it point out Collins' apparent hypocrisy regarding her position on Kavanaugh.

"Republicans are saying: your voices just don't matter", Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.) ― this was a straightforward "gang rape" accusation, one so obviously ridiculous that it became a rallying cry.

The US Senate, controlled the Republican Party, is expected to vote to confirm Mr Kavanaugh's appointment to the Supreme Court.

That, McConnell said, is the statement the Senate will make with its Kavanaugh vote.

"It's been a great political gift for us. I believe that she is a survivor of a sexual assault and that this trauma has upended her life". In the letter, dated Thursday, Grassley specifically asks for "records and descriptions" of any communications between Blasey Ford and any senators, particularly Democrats Dianne Feinstein of California and Mazie Hirono of Hawaii.

The confirmation process stalled in September amid allegations of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh which resulted the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing testimony from the nominee and Christine Blasey Ford, who alleges Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were in high school. This is despite Ford testifying, under oath, that she is "100 percent" sure that Kavanaugh was her attacker.

The Senate voted 51-49 on Friday for cloture, cutting off further debate.
